UPDATE 3/15/20 @ 5pm: It might seem a little strange to the non-dog people out there that we would make a website for our missing dog. But the truth is, Maui has been missing since 2/16/20, 30 days as of writing this, and we believe he is with someone. His scent ended in an industrial area with heavy semi-traffic and employees coming and going. He could have been moved somewhere in a neighboring town or he could be states away. The person he may be with likely does not know we are looking for him. We have had several people call our tip line asking to donate money toward his reward, to make it harder for a person to turn down if they have him and have come to really like him, not wanting to return him. For this very reason, and to help spread his face and our plea far and wide, we are opening a GO FUND ME page today, where you can simply share it across the Midwest or further, or add a few dollars to his reward amount. If he is not found, 50% of the fund will be donated to the St. Joseph Friends of the Animal Shelter, and 50% will be donated to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (because losing a child would be an exponentially worse nightmare and we have learned an ounce of what such parents might feel experiencing such a horror). We want to reach far and wide and get the message out that we are broken without our incredibly patient, loving, kind, perfect puppy home. We want to try our hardest to get him back and here is our effort.

AS OF 2/26/20:
$1000 Reward if your tip is what gets us to our dog. Call/text tips to (816) 679-6147. Tracking dogs took us straight down the 102 River to Mitchell Avenue near 68th Street (East of Riverside Road) in St. Joseph, MO. All scent dogs stopped on Mitchell in a parking lot behind the Farm and Home store. He was likely picked up in that parking lot. No questions asked- if your tip brings our dog home, you will get $1000 cash. We love him and ask for your help in bringing our pup home. THANK YOU ALL who have helped us thus far!
When Maui left our house, he was wearing a collar with his name, phone number, with tags, and a second collar which he wears to beep at him if trying to leave our property.
UPDATE 2/29/20 @ 7:15pm / DAY 13: No promising tips in 3 days. Our family is exhausted. Today we just had family time and tried to rest. We have gotten so many loving messages and people trying to help us find Maui. So many people have been out driving and watching for our huge puppy. Two people printed their own signs to help me cover more areas and vet offices in nearby towns. We are sad, but thankful for humanity being there for us during this low time. I will update in a couple of days or sooner if I have news. Maui, your dog mom is sorry.
UPDATE 2/22/20 @ 7:30pm: We did not find Maui today. Spotted a few other people’s dogs. When we got back to Rosecrans, we got a new tip that is just barely further south than we flew. Search dogs come tomorrow. I’ve been feeling incredibly thankful for ALL of the niceness humanity has shown our family this week. I know there are far worse tragedies in life. But I’m just feeling tons of love and encouragement during this awful experience and it has been a more comforting than you’d ever believe. I will update you tomorrow once the search day ends.
UPDATE 2/21/20 @ 9pm: No sightings or updates in the past 48 hours. We are grateful for a high school pilot friend who is taking us by plane to search the 45 sq miles of fields in the areas he was seen in and the surrounding miles. Also, trained search dogs will arrive Sunday at 11am. THANK YOU ALL for all of the miles you’ve driven while watching for our guy and for the shares, messages, and kindness shown!! More updates this weekend as we have them.
UPDATE 2/20/20 @ 2pm: No sightings or updates in the past 24 hours. My husband found mastiff tracks that ended at the north side of O Hwy just west of the Platte River yesterday at 12:45pm (SEE MY PHOTO COMMENT BELOW FOR MAUI’S MAP & PIC OF PRINTS). This was 1 mile south of his sighting with another smaller dog at 10am yesterday at CR 287 and E. Smaller dog prints were found next to the fresh mastiff prints yesterday, but they ended at O Hwy just west of the Platte River. Please keep your eye peeled around Cosby and surrounding. So far, his 3 sightings have been within 3 miles of each other. This location is 7.5 miles from home. We are so appreciate of your spreading the word about Maui and for watching for him. Someone told me to write a children’s book about this and how much love and support we felt as we worked to bring Maui home.
UPDATE 2/19/20 @ 1:45pm: Maui’s tracks along with another small dog are spotted by my husband just west of the Platte River, right outside Cosby. They were heading back west, toward Avenue City School and our house. This is 7.5 miles from Todd’s Tire/home. I’m hanging signs in Cosby and O Hwy now. Feeling close!!
UPDATE 2/19/20 @ 12pm: Maui was spotted running east along with a smaller dog on CR 287 and Hwy E. This is a mile East of where we have been searching. Close to Helena and Cosby. THANK YOU EVERYONE for keeping your eyes open. He is nice and hungry!!!
UPDATE 2/18/20 @ 9:40pm: Maui has been missing for 56 hours now. Searched 10am to 9pm tonight in the area where he was possibly spotted off Hwy D at 8:30pm last night. We introduced ourselves to all the neighbors. A farmer we crossed on the road today is sure he saw Maui crossing his field on 2/17/20 afternoon!!!! He felt awful bc he assumed the dog was a neighbor dog, though he said neighbor dogs are never out. My husband has been out of town this weekend which is unusual and Maui was very upset about that Saturday (it is not usual that my husband be out of town), searching our house and land high and low for him. He gets home at midnight tonight so I can’t wait for daylight with him searching too. I crossed several others looking for him who are following our post and cannot voice my gratitude enough for all the post shares and comments. Please keep watching out for Maui, and I will update tomorrow. I’m hopeful my husband’s voice and scent attracts our horse puppy to us.
UPDATE 2/18/20 @ 1am: Maui is likely headed North toward Savannah, MO. At 8:30 pm tonight, “a VERY LARGE, short haired dog that is not from around here” was seen by a resident along D Hwy, North of Avenue City School- this is 5 miles from where we live and is a direction Maui has ridden in the car with us many times before. I drove around looking with a rotisserie chicken for several hours tonight, but I think he’s sleeping now so I’m calling it a night. Will be out in that direction all day tomorrow. Placed 25 signs around the Todd’s Tire area today and will focus my attention in Savannah tomorrow. I CANNOT SAY THANK YOU ENOUGH for the shares and help finding our beloved family member.
Bull mastiff puppy, Maui, 1 year old, 130 lbs. North 169 area by Todd’s Tire. Let him out at 1:15pm today, he darted off exploring our lower field and was out of sight, I’ve been searching since 1:25pm. Please let me know if you see him.

FAMILY HIRES PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR TO FIND MISSING PUPPY
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) After six days and twelve miles of searching with no sight of Maui, the one-year-old bull-mastiff puppy, the Lane family decided to turn to a professional.
The family hired Angie Rutherford, a private investigator with Karin TarQwyn K9 Investigations.
Rutherford brought her six specific scent trained dogs to St. Joseph to hunt down Maui's scent. The mission lasted seven hours, taking the private investigator and the family on a four and a half mile trek along the 102 River.
The trained dogs led Rutherford and the Lane family to a parking lot located across from Tyson Foods on Mitchell Avenue and behind the Family Center Farm and Home.
“Right now it appears with the scenting ending the way it did, that someone has possibly picked up Maui,” Rutherford said.
The family is hoping that whoever picked up Maui, did so without knowing that they were looking for their beloved puppy.
"If you know anything that could possibly help us get ahold of the person that has him, they might not realize we’re looking for him. If you could give us any information, it would really mean a lot,”said Katie Lane.
The Lane family is offering a $1,000 reward to any tip that brings Maui back home.
If you do have any information, the family asks that you call 816-679-6147.
